Congratulations to the stupendous Dame Sarah Storey – who, with her 14th Gold Medal at the Rio Paralympics, has just become our greatest Paralympian ever.
Dame Sarah won her latest medal in the Women’s C4-5 road race in Rio, just one of a string of amazing achievements from Team GB’s Paralympians in general – and cycling in particular.
The success of our Paralympian cycling team proves that with the right help, training and equipment our amazing athletes can hit the heights of achievement. But did you know that again, with the right equipment, almost anyone can enjoy riding a bike and in the New Forest? We’re keen to see as many riders as possible enjoy themselves in our great outdoors.
For those with physical disabilities who still want to experience the joy and freedom of pedal power, Cyclexperience in Brockenhurst can rent you one of their twenty inclusive bikes (including several electric models); suitable for people with cerebral palsy, multiple sclerosis, people with balance impairment or who have undergone an amputation. You can also borrow a Garmin cycling computer for free to guide you around our magical landscape.
The New Forest National Park Authority also organises PEDALL – regular rides for groups of up to 20 people on adapted cycles, including introductory sessions and led cycle rides.
We have more than 140 miles of tracks as well as low-speed roads to get out on, travelling through pretty villages, across heathland, through the forest and to the coast.
Visitors may not quite get to speeds like Dame Sarah and the Paralympian TeamGB cyclists, but hopefully their cycling experience will be as much fun, especially at this time of year when the New Forest is at its most beautiful.
