A food festival not just for humans

Dog lovers are in for a treat this autumn with a unique culinary break in The New Forest.

The New Forest is to hold its first ever Food & Drink Festival this autumn from October 31 to November 6 2016.

The New Forest Food & Drink Festival will be a week-long celebration with culinary events, produce-tasting, featured dishes and activities for every foodie – even the four-legged ones.

The Festival themes have been designed to ensure that there really is something for everyone; meat-lover, vegetarian, and the sweet-toothed, as well as those furry foodies who appreciate a well-crafted bone or locally sourced treat.

For those who cannot bear to be parted from their canine companion, a number of Forest hotels provide a warm cosy bedroom to retreat to, fabulous food and a well-earned rest – and that’s just for the dog!

Dogs are welcome at a number of our venues…

Forest life is also a delight for humans, with the choice of produce so diverse that vegetarian food is nothing less of a joy. Book an overnighter at Burley Manor and enjoy the Vegetarian Forest Feast on November 1 where Channel 4’s Simon Rimmer will present a vegetarian forest banquet, taking inspiration from the Mediterranean.

Headlining the Cheese & The Forest Larder theme on Friday November 4 is The Drift inn, set in the heart of the Forest. The Drift Inn serves home cooked food and a great selection of ales, with wellies, walking boots and dogs always welcome. “Mr Lyburn himself, Mike Smales, will be the guest speaker at the cheese tasting event, showcasing an array of locally handmade cheeses produced at Lyburn Farm. After a delicious tasting session, guests will be invited to choose from a variety of Ploughman’s, undoubtedly a true forest favourite.

A Mad Hatters’ Tea Party will take place at the Beaulieu Hotel to celebrate our Future Forest Foodies theme on Saturday November 5. Formerly a coaching inn, the Beaulieu Hotel is a favourite with hikers and dog walkers and, hopefully, after November 5, young diners too!

On Wednesday 2nd November you can bring the dog to A Taste of the Outdoors – a living & learning event all about the Forest’s rich history and cultural heritage. Scrumptious lunches, cooked by local chefs, will be available to purchase on the day.

On the menu for Fido & co are dishes from local family run business, Paws Deli, creating doggy delights which you can order in advance to be delivered to your hotel of choice ready for your arrival. Treats are individually hand-crafted and freshly made using the finest locally sourced ingredients in a cottage kitchen.
